Everyone wants to be successful, nobody has defined it

show of hands

who wants to be successful

i’m T-Short not T-Pain

but i’m sure everybody hands go up

now keep your hands up

if you have taken the time to define success

wait where did all the hands go

i don’t see mine either

so the one thing I was chasing

with all my time energy effort

was defined by family society culture

flying around chasing the wind

at the expense of my kids family friends

show up

get in line

do as I’m told

real life TSA

operating on a new standard

do boring better

etch it in your memory

that’s my PSA

life is short

make as much money as possible

that’s a misplaced boarding pass

i can’t get on board with that

mile high expectations handed out by others

control tower unoccupied

auto-pilot disengaged

hands on approach moving forward to dictate my movement

distractions disguised as in-flight entertainment

don’t get caught up in others’ compliments

no cell phone for 365, stealth mode engaged

flying under the radar to discover new heights

engines always running

anxiety and worry used to be nonstop

even the biggest and fastest planes

need a layover to refuel

back up plans disguised as life jackets

designed to keep us afloat

life can feel like a free fall

inflate the safety device

bobbing in the water

helplessly waiting to be rescued

muse is calling

grab my pen

poke a hole

to get below

this journey is turbulent

no seat belt sign coming on

to keep me tied down

my future in a holding pattern

circling above

unsure when or where I’m going to land

destination unknown

more like touch-and-go

my baggage too heavy

there’s so much to unpack

no use in trying to carry it on

it’s time to check it

so I can takeoff in a timely manner
