I can be truthful and still not tell the whole truth
Pick up the box score with J’s on my feet
Never been a sneaker-head but I’m weighed down by Jealousy
I’m not looking for points, rebounds or stats
Only concerned with the officials who reffed the game
Instead of seeing three names, sometimes my friends
I see resentment, pride, and what could have been
Running up and down the hardwood
Has made me hardheaded
Hard to see where God’s taking me
When I keep looking where I was
Stuck in the past like getting on a treadmill
Walking backward with frustration
Expecting to move forward with progress
Beliefs mirror behaviors
But wait, we’ve got that wrong
Despair kicks in
Standards start to dip
Time to flip the mirror
Behaviors will always reveal your true beliefs
If you want it tomorrow
Open your app
Order it on Prime
If you want it to last,
Open a Bible
Increase your dependency on God
If I’m concerned with what you think
Lock the door and throw away the key
Never been to jail, but DOC can confirm
I’m a prisoner to other’s thoughts
Critics shouting like ignorant fans about the rules
No knowledge of the situation
Playing in a rec league
Has wrecked your entitlement
Priorities hard to find like Waldo in stripes
On the page in front of me but everything blends in
More concerned with random letters following my name instead
Of committing to the red letters proclaiming His name
Time for a personality test on my past
Likert scale for responses
One question, five choices
Confusion sets in
Time to dust off the mirror
Honest self-assessment
All five answers apply
When did you pray?
Always – when something really bad happened, in a sense of desperation
Often – when I was frustrated with my results when I should have been frustrated with my choices
Sometimes – when something good happened, but deep down, I was taking credit. I did this, I accomplished that
Rarely – would I start or end my day with prayer
Never – would I be consistent or do it daily out of reverence for God
For the longest time, I thought
Knowing God and Knowing About God
Were one and the same
But that’s the dangerous part when
Something gets between Knowing and God
Time for an About-face
Even small changes like removing one word
Can bring you closer to Knowing God
